Unexpected and unprepared for. 2. There was a preparation or readiness for good or positive result. 3. Dream, hope, expectation, wish, etc. was for a favourable outcome. 4. Loss, disadvantage, etc. from situation is considered enormous. And what is missed or lost cannot be regained or recouped. 5. Cannot be really explained, even if 'understandable' (connect to #2). 6. Negative impact cannot be shared or spread to another party. And must be borne alone and cannot be made less painful by any action. 7. Effect lasts for a period that is thought beyond normal.
