| BALKANIZATION Definition: The act or process of dividing a region into smaller regions which are unfriendly or aggressive towards each other. ______________________________________________________________________ * All seven elements would be in. 1. Purposeful and necessary, at the time of 'separation'. 2. Agreed to by all members of the union after due legal processes - conferences, referendums, votes, etc. 3. Aggressiveness or unfriendliness will not be externally induced. That is, no country or state outside the 'mother region' will have a destabilizing influence on the smaller independent regions. 4. Each smaller region is politically and economically stable. That is, discord is on a sort of 'level-playing field'. (See definition.) 5. It will not be possible in situation for smaller regions to come together, again, as one united large region. (To emphasize.) 6. Underdevelopment, destabilization, losses, etc. will be suffered by each individual region as a result of the time, resources and energy that will be spent on the (bad) relationships between them. 7.
