| MENTORING Definition: The activities involved in advising and helping somebody with less experience, undertaken by a more experienced person, over a period of time. ______________________________________________________________________ * All fourteen elements should be in. 1. Purposeful for all involved. 2. Considered a necessity to give advice and help to the greenhorn. 3. Recipient is willing to be taught and helped and has a learning and assimilation capacity or capability (to emphasize). 4. Advice given and help provided are the right ones and made available early and/or in good time. 5. Strategies and methods adopted keeps 'ward' focussed on his or her goal(s) and vision(s) (connect to #6). 6. Monitoring or examination, review or assessment, etc. is constant and regular (connect to #7). 7. Avoidable mistakes are not made, by 'teacher', during this period. 8. No punishment or sanction is meted out by mentor for errors and/or (un)avoidable mistakes committed (see definition, to emphasize). 9. Progress will be made as planned towards achieving some specific goal(s) and objective(s). 10. Nothing illegal or underhand will be or is done by the mentor, especially that which is unknown to, or unapproved by, the person being mentored (connect to #4, to emphasize). 11. Activities lasts for appropriate period in the estimation of both parties (see definition, connect to #14). 12. Advice and help provided is not remunerated. That is, mentor is not paid for services rendered (to emphasize). 13. Achieves objective(s) or serves purpose(s). 14.
