Definition: A flat piece of metal, usually shaped like a coin, that is given to the winner of a competition or to somebody who has been brave, for example in war.

1. Purposeful and considered a necessity by the approving or conferring authority.

2. Well-designed and with the correct and appropriate inscription(s).

3. Made of the right material and quality is excellent, be this gold, silver, etc., vis-a-viz the recipient's achievement(s).

4. Material is durable, especially if recipient is alive (connect to #3).

5. Given or awarded to the right person, even if posthumously. That is, no dispute over achievement and award will therefore not be withdrawn in the future.

6. No condition will be attached to the award, whether given with or without a citation.

7. Metal is received/accepted and serves purpose(s), whatever this/these is/are for victor of hero.
