MATERIALISM (1)

Definition: (usually disapproving) The belief that money, possessions and physical comforts are more important than spiritual values.

1. Person with belief gives away, if at all, only the minimum! (To emphasize.) [See perfect PLATE (16).]

2. Every material or physical thing, in person's estimation has beauty, value, use, worth, etc. [See perfect PERCEPTION (3).]

3. Person will do anything to preserve whatever is thought worth holding on to. (See perfect LOCKER ROOM.)

4. Person won't truly share, spare or give away a material or worldly thing for 'free'. (Connect to #1.) (See perfect NOBLESSE OBLIGE.)

5. Person does not really give a serious thought to death. What will? ... whatever is claimed! (See perfect INTESTACY.)

6. Where possible, person acquires more material things and physical assets and more, and yet ... some more, at whatever age or level. (To emphasize.) (See perfect COVETOUSNESS.)

7. Will hardly take the risk of investing to increase monetary and material possession. That is, person will be unwilling to hear or even listen to an encouraging 'story' or 'sermonization'. (See perfect HOMILY.)

8. Person with belief enjoys comforts, ... while he or she can, without suffering an unplanned loss as a result of megabucks and the assets possessed. [See perfect LUXURY (1).]

9. 'Believer' will die happy, hopefully, whether or not the burial arrangements are paid for before his or her passing! [See perfect FOOL (1).]
