Marking (4)
MARKING (4)

Definition: (in team games, especially football (soccer)) The practice of staying close to a player on the other team in order to stop them getting the ball.
______________________________________________________________________

* All eight elements should be in.

1. Purposeful and considered necessary.

2. Opponent is in sight - marker is never directly in front of -blocking - opponent, maybe beside or behind.

3. No touching or holding or physical contact while on 'guard' duty.

4. No gestures or verbal communication between players; intelligent.

5. Opponent will not, no, can never, outrun marker, when the ball is within reach (to emphasize).

6. No 'respect' or 'fear' of, or 'reverence' for, the 'foe'. That is, marker is not overawed or unnerved by the reputation of the opponent. In other words, marker cannot be caught absent-minded or off his or her guard.

7. No focus will be placed on other player(s) - only on the one particular player to be marked, vis-a-vis the ball's position.

8. Practice achieves goal(s), - opponent doesn't get the ball - without an injury or an unplanned loss to both the player staying close and that, that will try to get away (connect to #3).
