Definition: (British English, law) Money that somebody must pay regularly to their former wife, husband or partner, especially when they have had children together.

1. Purposeful and necessary, in the opinion of the judge/court (= law!). That is, payment has the backing of the law.

2. Request was made for payment by an ex- (= litigant or complainant).

3. Amount is affordable and/or reasonable, especially in the estimation of the payer.

4. Paid timely, correctly and constantly; no case of a default. And a sanction will exists for a failure or lateness in payment.

5. (Reserved.) (Paternity of child or children is not in doubt!)

6. Money paid and received will benefit the offspring(s), directly or indirectly, immediately or in the long run. That is, order of the court will achieve objective(s).
