Long-hours culture
LONG-HOURS CULTURE

Definition: (business) The way in which some workers feel that they are expected to work much longer hours than they are paid for.

1. Intention on being employed or on being given task would have been for the minimum effort to be put into particular endeavour.

2. Workload will be seen as heavy as a result of including jobs that are not defined or specifically listed in a schedule of duty.

3. Belief will be that commensurate or appropriate gain or benefit, or payment will not accrue from doing work for the additional hour(s).

4. Feeling will be based on the experience of employers not condoning lateness to work, or understanding a desire to close early, or reluctance to approve a leave of absence, etc.

5. It will not be possible to have an arrangement in place, whereby a temp or a colleague can stand-in to continue and/or conclude the assigned duties for the 'hated' extra hours.
