Definition: (British English) (informal) A way of answering that shows no respect for somebody in authority.

1. Purposeful and necessary (?) for who is being disrespectful. And some self-satisfaction will be obtained, whether or not he or she gets away with rudeness.

2. (Reserved.) (There is a full awareness of the status of who is being answered. That is, excuse of non-recognition cannot be given. And the person in authority has done nothing worthy of disrespect.)

'SO WHAT ... SAYS WHO ... WHY NOT ... CAN'T YOU ... WHAT IF ...' ?


3. The right and/or proper ways to provide the answers are known. (To emphasize.) That is, the annoying comments made, wrong timings used, disparaging actions taken, etc. will all be deliberate.

4. The existence of sanction(s) for rudeness or crassness will be known by who disregards the superior, senior, etc. That is, there will be a realization that something can be lost from or by the manner of the answers provided.

'YOU ARE ENTITLED TO YOUR OPINION'.


5. Manner of answers will be plainly bad - cannot be misconstrued for some other good thing. That is, the given responses (= answers) will be prevarications, curtly, monosyllabic, etc. In other words, retorts or utterances, gestures or moves, actions or reactions, etc. will all be completely scornful.

6. The solemnities, protocols, etc. required or that should be used to address the 'boss' or that ought to be mentioned in speech will be clearly exaggerated or gravely underestimated.
