| LIFE SENTENCE Definition: The punishment by which somebody spends the rest of their life in prison. ______________________________________________________________________ * All nine elements would be in. 1. Purposeful and necessary. 2. Judgement was legal and court had lawful authority. 3. Nature of stay in prison, as stated in judgement is specific and identifiable - with or without hard labour, visitation rights, etc. 4. Prisoner or convict is not a person considered a goner - who is surely to die very soon; old or young, sick or healthy, etc. (To emphasize.) 5. Lifer will, on no condition, see the outside of prison wall. 6. No possibility or chance for lifer to commit suicide in prison. 7. Sentence achieves objective(s). That is, person dies in the prison yard - not to die in a hospital outside prison! 8. There was no miscarriage of justice during the trial. That is, person deserves sentence (connect to #2). 9. All appeal options - for reduction of sentence, quashing of judgement, etc. - were exhausted before lifer passes on. _________________ * JUST DESERTS. | |
