| LIBERATION THEOLOGY Definitions: i. A Christian religious movement, developed mainly by Latin American Catholics, which deals with social justice and the problems of people who are poor, as well as with spiritual matters. ii. The belief that the Christian Church should be actively involved in politics in order to bring about social change. iii. A 20th century religious movement especially prevalent among the Roman Catholics in Latin America that emphasizes freedom from oppression and poverty. ______________________________________________________________________ * The movement or belief should have all eleven elements. 1. Purposeful and necessary for practitioners/believers. 2. Church forms or registers a political party or social association. 3. Attitude and behaviour of a member of movement or group will be like a people person's or truly Christ-like. That is, there will be a full understanding of the tenets of the socialist ideology or the teachings in the Bible. 4. Manifesto or programme will be wholly socialism and/or Bible-based. 5. Movement or party practices equality or internal democracy. 6. Pulpit or platform will be a veritable soap box. That is, opportunities to use formal or official occasion to 'campaign' will not be missed or misused by the special select group of Christians. 7. No rigging or shenanigans, by some so-called Christians, will take place for people to have a chance to make an impact or effect changes. 8. Practitioners won't form alliances or go into a coalition arrangement (= government) with non-Christians (= unbelievers!) 9. Congregation won't be abandoned in pursuit of social change or while trying to sort out the problems of the hungry (= the poor). 10. (Reserved.) (The flock will not be forced to participate in activities aimed at bringing succour to the poverty-stricken or achieving reformation or a semblance of revolution in society.) 11.
