Definition: The act of printing a statement about somebody that is not true and that gives people a bad opinion of them.

1. Purposeful and necessary for offender.

2. There is a certainty that statement is an untruth.

3. No serious effort was made to 'confirm' veracity (connect to #2).

4. A caution, warning, demand for a retraction, etc. was not heeded.

5. There is a readiness and preparedness, by publisher of libellous material, to defend a lawsuit.

6. Claims (= lies) are believed completely by gullible readers.

7. Publisher will pay a price, if imposed by a court of law.
