| LAY-BY (1) Definition: (British English) An area at the side of a road where vehicles may stop for a short time. ______________________________________________________________________ * All eight elements would be in. 1. Purposeful and necessary. 2. Clearly marked or signposted, a reasonable distance, on its approach, before it is reached. 3. Not too near or close to the road. And not usable for a fee! 4. Has adequate and available space or grounds for length of car. 5. Quality of surface or tar is as good as that of/on the road. 6. Clean, neat and tidy area. 7. Safe and secured to stop at. 8.
