Law of thermodynamics
LAW OF THERMODYNAMICS

Definition: One of three laws in physics. The first states the principle of the conservation of mass-energy. The second specifies that any real process may occur spontaneously only with an increase in the entropy of the system. Thus the first law only establishes the conditions that must obtain if a process does occur: the second law establishes the conditions that must be met before a process is possible. The third law states that the entropy of a perfectly crystalline substance is zero at the zero of absolute temperature.
