LATCHKEY CHILD

Definition: (usually disapproving) A child who is at home alone after school because both parents are at work.

1. Left nothing back at school that should have been brought back and that would be needed at home.

2. Has the telephone and contact addresses of parents. And also knows how to dial the emergency number(s).

3. Does no damage in the house before return of parents - whatever he or she is or will be engaged in.

4. Will be met at home, - not near, around or at the neighbour's - on return, by the parents.

5. Will tell parents all that had happened, on the way from school and at home, during their absence and since his or her return from school. (To emphasize.)
