Definition: (North American English, informal) (idiomatic - on the lam) Escaping from somebody, especially from the police.

1. Purposeful and necessary for who is escaping.

2. There is a justification for running away: guilt and fear to face justice, or innocence and fear of mob action or police brutality! That is, there is a certainty that a serious loss will be suffered, ... if caught alive!

3. Not in sight of pursuer(s). Or pursuer(s) is/are not yet in a position to halt escape or slow down speed, if in his/her/their sight.

4. No clues or evidence that can be used to trace movements are left or dropped on the escape route or trail.

5. Energy and reserve of strength will not fail or be extinguished.

6. Support, assistance, etc., if any, that will be sought, especially from others, will not disappoint or betray.

7. Running will not be stopped, until pursuer(s) give up chase, or an amnesty is offered, ... or death comes.

8. There will not be extreme exhaustion in the end that something vital will not be impossible to do, or that pursuer(s) will catch up.

9. No injury occurs to the one on the run, such that speed of escape will be hampered or slowed.

10. No additional offence or crime is committed during period. (To emphasize.)

11. Act serves purpose(s), even if person will be eventually caught.
