International style
INTERNATIONAL STYLE

Definition: The predominant style of 20th century architecture. Developed by Oud, Gropius, Le Corbusier and Mies van der Rohe. It achieved universality by 1950. Its adherents stress simplicity, purity of line, functional planning, undisguised use of modern materials (e.g. steel and concrete), exploration of dynamic spacial relationships, and cooperation in realms of scientific, cultural and aesthetic development.
