| INDUSTRIAL ACTION Definition: (especially British English) Actions that workers take, especially stopping work, to protest to their employers about something. ______________________________________________________________________ * All ten elements should be in. 1. Purposeful and necessary - but this is certainly not in the employers' opinion. 2. (Reserved.) (Not an action proscribed by law.) 3. Intention to stop work is made known, in good time, to the employers. And the decision to down tools was taken by the body or representative(s) of the workers or labour union. 4. A dialogue was or would be had, between time of notification and start of proposed action, even though this could not or would not prevent stoppage. 5. Productivity of company or organization will be affected. That is, there will be no possibility of employers securing alternative labour - temporary workers, volunteers, interns, etc. to perform the tasks abandoned by strikers. 6. Public or private property, the environment or ecosystem is or will not be damaged or destroyed, by the 'angry' workers, during action (to emphasize). 7. Commences and ends timely. That is, timing and duration are considered appropriate, to help achieve goal(s). 8. The entirety of the workforce will be involved in action. 9. (Reserved.)
