Identity theft
IDENTITY THEFT

Definition: Using somebody's name and personal information in order to obtain credit cards and other goods or to take money out of the person's bank accounts.

1. Purposeful and necessary for the fraudulent person.

2. Loss will be enormous for 'the real Mc'Coy'. That is, purchases made on cards or withdrawal(s) from account will be substantial.

3. There will be no serious similarity in the details, especially in the names of fraudster and the real owner of (stolen) identity. That is, names are not close in spelling, pronunciation, etc.

4. Stolen cards or documents are not passed on to a 'second' criminal.

5. Person who commits the crime is not found out and is, therefore, not caught or punished. That is, act/action serves purpose(s).
