| HOME OFFICE Definition: (usually - the Home Office) The British government department that deals with the law, the police and prisons, and with decisions about who can enter the country. ______________________________________________________________________ * All nine elements should be in. 1. Purposeful and necessary. 2. Appropriately manned by trained, qualified humans - not racists or bigots or sexists or incompetents! 3. Efficient and effective - dealing promptly and correctly with all matters brought before it. 4. Accessible and reachable; personnel will pick phones - what answering machine? - , acknowledge receipt of letters, respond to appeals, etc., etc. That is, departmental staff are courteous, responsible, hardworking, etc., etc. 5. Its staff commit no illegality or immorality in the course of carrying out duties. And are versed in the law, customs, etc., especially of the foreigners that they will be interacting with. 6. Department is safe, secured and protected from the activities of would-be-terrorists, the aggrieved, a dejected, etc., etc. 7. Place is clean, neat, tidy; hygienic working environment. 8. Equipped and/or furnished appropriately. That is, the working environment is appropriate and will not put a strain or pressure on the officers of department (connect to #2). 9.
