HATCHET MAN (1)

Definition: (informal) A person employed by an organization to make changes that are not popular with the other people who work there: one who does shady jobs for a politician or political party.

1. Purposeful and necessary, in the organization's opinion.

2. Will discuss and agree on the nature of proposed changes before accepting job.

3. Will be given appropriate lawful authority, and support, when he or she resumes work, to effect desired changes.

4. Will 'survive'. That is, the people who work there will not be able to frustrate person to abandon reforms midway or to effect what was not initially planned.

5. Changes made will be beneficial to the workers too, even though this will only be realized later.

6. No staff resigns as a result of introduced changes (to emphasize). And productivity does not decline as a direct result of changes made.

8. Changes introduced will outlive the 'h-man', especially if he or she has to move on, to another employment, shortly after establishing changes or completing task.
