| HARD-LUCK STORY Definition: A story about yourself that you tell somebody in order to get their sympathy or help. ______________________________________________________________________ * All nine elements should be in. 1. Purposeful (see definition). 2. You consider it necessary to seek sympathy or help this way. 3. You are truly in need of sympathy or help at the time of narration. 4. Person being told your 'life story' has the time and/or patience to listen all through, however long it takes, or until ... . 5. Talk or story contains no lie or outright falsehood - even if listener will not know! - but, maybe some half-truths. 6. (Reserved.) (You will not be asked to clarify any issue in story. Or, if asked, your response does not worsen matters.) 7. No tears, wailing or crying during the narration, by you or even the listener! (Connect to #8.) (To emphasize, see definition.) 8. (Reserved.) (Your story does not bring about a sob story from the person being told!) 9.
