HALFWAY HOUSE (2)

Definition: A place where prisoners, mental patients, etc. can stay after leaving a prison or hospital, before they start to live on their own again.

1. Purposeful and necessary.

2. Features in place (= house) do not bear similarities to those in the prison or hospital discharged from.

3. Structure is safe, secured and adequately protected (connect to #6, to emphasize).

4. Guard(s), servant(s), etc., if any, in temporary house is/are not dressed like those jailers or 'madmen'.

5. Clean, neat and tidy, inside and out.

6. Contact is restricted. That is, those or what was responsible for sojourn to jail or mental house are not allowed access to place.

7. Access to the house is not restricted, for all the people that ex-convict or former madman/madwoman may want to see. (Connect to #6.)

8. Stay in house will last for the period that person in considers appropriate - not as considered by the prison or hospital officials!

9. Structure will serve purpose(s), as a 'transition home' - prepares person for full integration into the outside world.
