| HAIR-SPLITTING Definition: (disapproving) The act of giving too much importance to small and unimportant differences in an argument. ______________________________________________________________________ * All seven elements would be in. 1. Purposeful, even if this is not known by another or the others. 2. Act is considered a necessity and is, or will be, therefore, deliberately done (connect to #3). 3. No unplanned material loss or disadvantage will be suffered as a result of the act, by who 'splits'. 4. Act will last for an unnecessarily long period of time. 5. Manner of presentation or talk will make matter to be seemingly more important than necessary (to emphasize, connect to #6). 6. Hearing or attention is given or paid to person giving exaggerated talk or additional stress, even if it (= emphasis) is suspected as a glorification. 7.
