| GREAT Definition: (usually plural) (informal) A very well-known or successful person or thing. ______________________________________________________________________ * All eight elements should be in. 1. The success has been secured, not imminent. And the fame is solid, not controversial. 2. Fame is 'far and wide', not only in the neighbourhood or locality. And success is overwhelming and far-reaching, not slight or cheap. 3. Person or thing can stand on his/her/its own, without external support. That is, popularity (= fame) or victory (= success) was genuinely achieved. 4. Fame or success will be had for a very long time, as desired. Or will be present or lasts forever, never causes a misgiving. 5. Person or thing cannot be defeated or overshadowed while he/she/it 'reigns'. That is, standard or quality is incontrovertibly top-grade. 6. Quality is positive and endorsed by all, especially by the rivals or co-competitors - attainment cannot be successfully challenged or discredited, however hard they might try. 7. Acknowledges the source of greatness. Or the manufacturer, founder, creator, etc., or the cause of product's popularity or success is traceable. 8. Person does nothing or nothing occurs to thing, especially when out of public view, to reduce or diminish his/her/its self-worth or self-confidence, or result in a self-doubt or cause a doubt about thing, or self-denial, self-destruction, self-harm, self-deprecation, self-pity selfishness, self-delusion, etc., or even in the loss of self-control or self-respect.
