| GRAVITAS (2) Definition: (formal) If you say that someone has gravitas, you mean that you respect them because they seem serious and intelligent. ______________________________________________________________________ * You say so, if ... 1. Person's attitude and behaviour towards a contentious issue are excellent - nonchalant, moderate, extreme, etc. - in your opinion. 2. Attitude reflects a willingness to take calculated risk and behaviour includes a readiness to attempt the difficult. That is, person will be seen to be purposeful at all times. 3. Some measure of reciprocal respect is shown to you by this person, even if you do not seem to be as serious or intelligent as him or her. 4. Person's relationship with others will be humane and personable. 5.
