Definition: (British English, informal, usually disapproving) A person, usually a criminal, who tells the police about somebody's criminal activities and plans.

1. Has a purpose and considers it necessary to squeal on somebody.

2. Does not disclose or expose his criminal nature. (That is, no certainty, by the police, that this informant is a criminal.)

3. Information given is genuine and valid.

4. Provides the information timely.

5. Does not demand a reward or payment for information offered.

6. Will not be suspected by who he or she squealed on. That is, will ordinarily not face a danger, as a direct result of the 'good' done.

7. Commits no crime in the course of passing information.

8. Achieves objective(s), whatever this/these is/are.
