| GRANDSTANDING Definition: (North American English) (especially in business, politics, etc.) The fact of behaving or speaking in way that is intended to make people impressed in order to gain some advantage for yourself. ______________________________________________________________________ * All nine elements should be in. 1. Purposeful and necessary (see definition). 2. Action or speech is done timely, when it can still help to achieve intended goal(s). 3. What is done or said is realistic for the status or level of education, experience, qualification, etc. of the doer or talker. 4. Behaviour or talk is made independently and is seemingly sure-footed. That is, not done on a prompting or with the unseen support of another person. In other words, the person's self-doubt cannot be seen by the audience or listeners, even if this is suspected. 5. Acts or action, talk and comments made does not contradict the pedigree, background, history, etc. of the person. That is, no seriously negative or bad experience has been previously had with this person (to emphasize, connect to #4 & #6). 6. (Reserved.) (This person has tamed his or her inner demons. That is, he or she will not falter, stutter, develop stage fright, etc., under scrutiny, grilling or questioning, demand for a demonstration, request for a repeat performance, etc., etc.) 7. No shout, use of force, 'bravado', display of anger or impatience, etc. is involved in efforts. That is, expediency - even if this involves pomposity, rather than rightness, will be the order. 8. An assurance, or a guarantee, promise, etc. is implied or provided in behaviour shown or during talk. 9. Watchers/viewers/listeners/audience are/is faced, in the end, with the need to take a decision, to accept (behaviour) and cooperate, or not to believe (talk) and disagree. _________________ BRAVO (!?)
