GOOD AFTERNOON

Definition: (convention) (formal) You say 'Good afternoon' when you are greeting someone in the afternoon.

* All six elements should be in.


1. You have a purpose and consider greeting necessary.

2. Who is being greeted is not hard of hearing.

3. Intended recipient is seen visible; present.

4. Place or location where greeting is said is not so pitch dark as a result of the weather condition or some deliberate arrangement, such that the wording will seem 'inappropriate'.

5. Greeting will be acknowledged and responded to appropriately.

6. Nothing is added to the two words - not sir or ma, honey or dear, boss or friend, or ... ! And no accompanying gesticulation or grovelling either. (To emphasize, see definition.)
