General court-martial
GENERAL COURT-MARTIAL

Definition: (U.S.) A military court for offenses of the most serious kind, with authority to impose dishonorable discharge or capital punishment. It is composed of at least five commissioned officers. Its proceeding are governed by a law officer who is required to be a member of the bar. Prosecution is by trial counsel and defense by a defense counsel, both required to be members of the bar.
