Definitions:

i. A picture at the beginning of a book, on the page opposite the page with the title on it.

ii. The frontispiece of a book is the picture at the beginning, opposite the page with the title on.

* All seven elements should be in.


1. Purposeful to have photograph, in the publisher's opinion.

2. Considered necessary to have photo in the prominent position.

3. Pic will be complete and clear, black and white or coloured.

4. Photograph will be in furtherance of the book's subject matter. That is, picture will not be a distraction. In other words, what is seen at the beginning of book will serve some beneficial purpose(s).

5. Will be ascribed to a source, even if taken from a drawing.

6. Remains clear for as long as the book is in a readable form.

7. Will not be separately titled, coded, numbered, named, etc.
