| FRESHER Definition: (British English, informal) A student who has just started his or her first term at a university. ______________________________________________________________________ * All six elements should be in. 1. Knows the reason for and the necessity to be at the university; has a purpose. 2. Socializes adequately with old and new students and acclimatizes reasonably with the environment or surroundings of the university. That is, does not devote excess time to non-academic pursuits at the very beginning of his or her studies. 3. Settles in adequately after the initial interaction and/or familiarization. (Connect to #2.) That is, sorts out tuition, accommodation, etc. issues, if any, promptly. 4. Faces his or her studies squarely - attends all classes, creates appropriate room for relaxation, does all assignments, etc. - with seriousness and determination to have an excellent chance of success in the examination(s) or assessment(s), at the end of term. 5. Student was admitted with genuine qualifications/credentials - certificate(s), examination(s), etc. - no withdrawal mid-term! (To emphasize.) 6. Will remain in the university after first term and continue with studies. That is, student will not be withdrawn for non-academic reason(s) and will, therefore, continue his or her education to the end (to emphasize). _______________ MAKES HAY.
