Foraminifer
FORAMINIFER

Definition: A protozoan of order Foraminefera, class Rhizopoda. These microorganisms secrete around themslves a calcerous shell, coiled like a snail's and perforated by very many tiny holes, through each of which a pseudopod extends. They are found, usually sessile, in salt water, and their skeletal remains form much of the ooze on the ocean floor, often consolidating as chalk.
