| FOOLHARDINESS Definition: (disapproving) The state or situation in which unnecessary risks are taken. ______________________________________________________________________ * All seven elements would be in. 1. Purposeful and considered necessary, by the risk-taker. 2. Unlikelihood or improbability of success is recognized before commencement of action(s), yet ... . 3. The circumstances are clear and plain. That is, situation has been properly evaluated before 'plunge' is taken. 4. Expected or projected benefit or gain will be enormous and considered worth the risk by person taking risks. 5. Threat, problem, likely losses, etc. in the situation have been identified (connect to #3, to emphasize). 6. Warning, caution, forewarning, etc. are given to risk-taker, but these are not or will not be heeded. 7. Action taken succeeds. That is, 'foolishness' pays or daring works, as exactly hoped or planned for!
