| FOCUS GROUP Definition: A small group of people, specially chosen to represent different social classes, etc., who are asked to discuss and give their opinions about a particular subject. The information obtained is used by people doing market research, for example about new products or for a political party. ______________________________________________________________________ * All nine elements should be in. 1. Purposeful and necessary. 2. Selection of members is carefully and correctly made. That is, it is believed that members chosen will be intelligent enough to do an excellent job. 3. Representation is broad and complete (connect to #4). 4. Number(s) in group is/are complete and adequate. 5. Discussions are thorough, rich and brilliant. 6. Opinions that will be expressed will be well-thought, practicable and beneficial. 7. There will be unanimity on the group's findings, be it temporary or final result(s). And where there is a dissenting or minority report, this is allowed to be, and is clearly stated. 8. No member of the group will be co-opted into the market research team. Or no member will be directly involved with the use of information provided. 9. Group serves purpose(s).
