Definition: (sport) A situation when somebody taking part in a race starts before the official signal has been given.

1. Purposeful and necessary for the cheat to 'beat the gun'.

2. Deliberate, planned. Or, if inadvertent, run is not terminated, because it is not realised by runner.

3. Not noticed by starter or other official(s), where applicable. Person is, therefore, allowed to continue and complete race.

4. The person who made wrong start is not disqualified after for other reason(s) apart from the error.

5. Cheat wins the race or gets the placing desired, be this runner-up or third position or ... . (But runner finishes the race.)

6. Evidence of false start cannot be denied, where cheat is challenged or confronted. (Connect to #2.)

7. Race is not asked to be rerun. And medal (= position) or prize (= award) is not nullified or withdrawn afterwards.

8. The other runner(s) was/were not seriously handicapped as a direct result of false start. (To emphasize.)
