False alarm
FALSE ALARM

Definition: A warning about a danger that does not happen; a belief that something bad is going to happen, when it is not.

1. Purposeful, the warning, not its falsehood.

2. Well-intentioned. That is, it is/was genuinely issued, with the belief that danger is/was imminent.

3. There is/was a basis for warning, even if only known to the person who issues it. And warning is/was of a specific nature.

4. Impossible to withdraw even after a confirmation that danger will be no more. Or withdrawn after time of expected danger has passed.

5. Taken seriously, resulting in adequate and appropriate preparations being made for impending danger.

6. Danger existed, though it is/was stopped from happening, or affecting or reaching the party warned (to emphasize, connect to #3).

7. No unplanned loss arises from preparations made in anticipation.

8. 'Lie' or 'mischief' will not be apologized for by the party that gave wrong warning.
