EXCUSE (1)

Definition: [ ~ (for doing something) ] A reason, either true or invented, that you give to explain or defend your behaviour.

1. Purposeful (connect to #2).

2. Necessary to offer fact or tell 'story' (to emphasize).

3. Demanded as a response by an appropriate person/authority. Or given in anticipation that it will surely be asked for.

4. Given timely/promptly when it can make some 'meaning' - even if it sounds hollow! - and help achieve objective(s).

5. Takes an appropriate, but minimal time to give - whether written or stated verbally.

6. Never given or supported with a proof or an evidence, real or concocted (see definition).

7. Listened to and heard, perused or read, whether understood as a deception (= lie) or factual (= truth).

8. Accepted, even if not believed! That is, reason serves purpose(s). In other words, no sanction, punishment, an unplanned loss, etc. is suffered as a result of what you use to explain or defend behaviour.
