Definition: [ ~ (for something) ] An indirect word or phrase that people often use to refer to something embarrassing or unpleasant, sometimes to make it seem more acceptable than it really is.

1. Purposeful, in whatever language (connect to #2).

2. Considered a necessity, especially by the user, to use or employ an indirect 'alternative' word or phrase.

3. Clearly understandable or understood. That is, its pronunciation, spelling, etc. are in order: audible and/or readable, not confusing or obscurantist.

4. Not subject to dual or multiple interpretation.

5. Use of word or phrase will not lead to a listener or reader asking a question, requiring a clarification or confirmation, that will lead to avoiding an explanation, where required, of the used word/phrase.

6. Use of word or phrase achieves objective(s).
