| ESCALATOR CLAUSE Definition: A clause allowing for a rise in pay, e.g. according to the rise or fall of the cost of living, incorporated in an agreement between an employer and the union. ______________________________________________________________________ * All six elements should be in. 1. Purposeful and necessary to have provision in place. 2. Not illegally smuggled into or included in agreement. 3. Able to automatically come into operation, when 'triggered'. 4.
