Escalator
ESCALATOR

Definition: Moving stairs that carry people between different floors of a large building.

1. Purposeful and considered necessary to have facility in building.

2. Will get to the necessary or appropriate levels (= floors), in the building, for the overweight or lazy or physically challenged, etc. user(s).

3. Dimensions, especially the width, length of steps, etc. are right for the persons that will get on stairs.

4. Safe and secured to use. That is, not badly wired to pose a risk or danger to user(s).

5. Clean, neat and tidy - not slippery or wet, dusty, etc. to be a source of problem for user(s).

6. Professionally installed: operates or functions smoothly. That is, stairs is regularly and properly serviced and maintained. In other words, never breaks down while in use.

7. Has instructions on how to use/operate, including allowable weight limits, action(s) to take in an emergency, etc., - written boldly on a conspicuous part of stairs.

8. Serves purpose(s), with or without a fixed staircase, in the large building.
