| EPIDEMIC (1) Definition: A large number of cases of a particular disease happening at the same time in a particular community. ______________________________________________________________________ * All six elements would be in. 1. Forecasted. That is, outbreak was foreseen before arrival, even if unprepared for! 2. Cases are being promptly and appropriately attended to by the relevant health and/or medical professionals. 3. Situation is controlled or controllable. That is, cases can be effectively managed such that disease is prevented from spreading to a neighbouring community. 4. Losses - sicknesses, deaths, declining productivity, etc. - are great in the situation. 5. Lessons are learned from the calamity. That is, problem is studied and something positive is learned therefrom - to help prevent a repeat in the same proportion in the future. 6. Ends on time.
