Enteric fever
ENTERIC FEVER

Definition: A disease of the typhoid and paratyphoid group, caused by specific disease bacteria, and spread through the contamination of food and water supplies by feces or urine of people who have the disease or who have had it. An attack runs a severe course for a month or more, and causes a high fever, weakness, alternation of consciousness, and sometimes internal bleeding or perforation of the intestine. It is treated by antibiotics.
