ELECTORATE (1)

Definition: The people in a country or an area who have the right to vote, thought of as a group.

* All nine elements should be in.


1. Purposeful and necessary, whatever the form of government.

2. Complete and made of all sorts: faithfuls, extremists, floating voters, etc. And the people will usually turn out, in large numbers, a high percentage. That is, group will be enthusiastic.

3. Informed, 'literate' or 'educated' - knows the issues/candidates. And can properly indicate their preferences on the ballot papers!

4. Organized, orderly, peaceful, non-violent; law-abiding.

5. Vigilant and alert; can protect votes within the limits of the law.

6. Independent-minded, inquisitive and discerning; sure - will not be seen to be voting as a 'block', unless ... . And the members of group will not boycott an election or abstain from exercising their civic rights. And the people will be forthright and incorruptible.

7. Men and/or women in group will also have constitutional rights, as individuals, to stand as candidates and be voted for, in the particular election(s) in which they can cast ballots.

8. Will not be disenfranchised, especially in a situation where a valid document such as voter's card is missing, though person will be a registered citizen or resident who has his or her name on the electoral register, has genuine identification, and with sure confirmation that there had been no voting earlier in the election.

9. Will not take the laws into their hands if and when they think or believe that their votes have been manipulated to produce an unpopular outcome. That is, group will follow the path of the process of law in trying to resolve disputes that may arise from the exercise of their rights.
