ECOSPECIES

Definition: (biology) A subdivision of a cenospecies within which a free exchange of genetic material may occur without loss of fertility, but whose members are less capable of fertile crosses with other subdivisions of the cenospecies. It is usually coextensive with the taxonomic species.
