Dutch courage
DUTCH COURAGE

Definition: (British English, informal) The false courage or confidence that a person gets from drinking alcohol.

1. Purposeful - the 'bravado', not the stupidity.

2. Necessary in drunk's opinion to show 'courage' or 'confidence'.

3. Does not arise from a dare or a 'truth or dare' (connect to #2). That is, drunk is not encouraged to show 'boldness'.

4. Challenges in the situation, in the drunk's estimation are massive, 'gargantuan'.

5. Person can't hear own 'voice'. That is, drunk is unable to caution self to see or think of the dangers, etc. that are lurking in the 'inviting' situation.

6. Never admits falsity of comportment, in the immediate term or in the long run (he/she is a drunk, remember?).

7. 'Courage' or 'confidence' lasts till the very end. That is, drunk will not withdraw or recant offer, boasts, deeds, comments, etc., as applicable, whether attempt succeeds or fails woefully in the end.

8. Posture serves purpose(s) in the immediate, drunken run (connect to #6 & #7, to emphasize).

9. Will be reflected on, if not regretted later, on becoming sober.

10. Person will or would never have ordinarily said, done or made the comment, act, action, activity, etc. witnessed, if not that he or she is/was in a state of stupor.

12. Product or outcome of false bravery is never apologized for or sincerely regretted or appreciated. That is, drunk will have no real introspection. (Connect to #9.) (Reminder? He/she is a drunk or was drunk!!)
