| DUPE Definition: (formal) A person who is tricked or cheated. ______________________________________________________________________ * All eight elements would be in. 1. Takes or took precautions not to fall prey, or so he or she thought! (Connect to #2 & #3.) Believed he/she was on 'high alert'. 2. Person is of normal or average intelligence - not retarded or a dunce! And is assumed in a proper frame of mind at the time of being tricked or cheated!! Does not ever, initially, believe he's/she's been conned!!! 3. Person faces or faced no constraints or had no impediments before the act is/was completed. That is, he or she could ask, search, examine, observe, question, etc. 4. Loss in the situation is considered serious or substantial and pain of action is deep. 5. Planning to recoup loss or to take his or her own pound of flesh. 6. Will not succumb for the same 'shenanigans' in the future, even if the 'dramatis personae' or actor(s) is/are different. 7. Cannot get a relief or recompense from the courts, etc. 8. There is a shame, discomfort, disadvantage, etc. for the victim, from being caught off guard.
