| DUMMY (5) Definition: (British English) A specially shaped rubber or plastic object for a baby to suck. ______________________________________________________________________ * All nine elements should be in. 1. Purposeful and considered necessary to give baby object. That is, used for training and to quieten infant. 2. Owned solely, not shared between babies! 3. Object is clean and neat. 4. Nothing, whether liquid or solid or gas, drips out of the object. 5. Shape of object, and especially where baby sucks - its mouth - is like an erect nipple! (To emphasize, see definition.) 6. Object is of appropriate size - not so small that it can be easily bitten off and eaten/swallowed by baby (connect to #7). 7. Made of the right material(s) - not edible and not containing elements that can cause illness for baby. 8. Never takes the place of the real nipple! That is, baby is not given object instead of real breast milk ! 9.
