Double-booking
DOUBLE-BOOKING

Definition: A situation in which the same room, table, etc. has been promised to two different people at the same time.

1. Situation is not caused deliberately (to emphasize).

2. One of the two persons promised eventually gets the reserved allocation. That is, no instant loss will occur to the hotel, restaurant, service provider, etc.

3. The person who does not get promise fulfilled gets a profuse and timely apology. And a full urgent refund of deposit/down payment, where applicable (To emphasize.)

4. (Reserved.) (Some sort of compensation is offered to 'loser', even if this can only be claimed in the future.)

5. An alternative, but less satisfying arrangement, is offered to to the person whose hope was not met. Or a viable recommendation is made.

6. Somebody - an employee - is punished for incompetence.
