| DISCOURSE (1) Definition: (formal) A long and serious treatment or discussion of a subject in speech or writing. ______________________________________________________________________ * All six elements should be in. 1. Purposeful and considered necessary (connect to #5). 2. Complete and comprehensive. That is, treatment or discussion, however long or serious, starts and concludes in one piece or during a single presentation. 3. Talk or writing is paid appropriate and important attention to, especially by the listeners/readers. _______________________ HOWEVER DELIVERED. 4. Talk or writing has a current relevance, even if topic is an ancient subject. 5. Time expended to listen or read is not wasted. That is, there is some benefit in what is treated or discussed. And no negative fallout from the activity. 6. Duration (of talk) and length (of notes) is not excessive (to emphasize), especially in the opinion of listener/reader. _______________________________ * WHATEVER THE SUBJECT.
